Join TEAM UR as a Program Facilitator (Site Leader) at your Oakland school site.

You can receive a $400 honorarium for the full academic year*. Key requirements: you will attend Saturday, August 26 in-person training from 10 am - 1 pm (lunch provided), facilitate the program to completion in the fall and spring semester, submit required participant surveys and feedback.

What does Upward Roots do to support program facilitators?

  • Provide all supplies and materials necessary to implement the program, including:

    • Complete curriculum

    • Changemaker Kits for participants

    • All supplies and materials for team building, STEM, and other activities

  • In-person visits during implementation, with optional co-facilitation support when possible

  • Weekly check-ins in a way that works best for you

  • We match service projects with community-based organizations and support you with all of the logistics, as appropriate and possible

  • We train, coach, and support you on in implementing our detailed program curriculum.

At Brookfield Elementary, a group of 4th and 5th grade students from Upward Roots were concerned that children their age were not being nice to each other unless they were already friends. They observed that some kids were teasing others based on their appearance, which is known as body shaming. This motivated them to take action. They designed T-shirts with positive messages about bodies and organized drawing and writing activities to promote body positivity at two other schools.
